Literacy Impact

Enough Is Enough

Bebe was really ashamed that she could not read and write. She always went to church with two pens to make people think she could read. One day she was given a letter addressed to the church and was asked to read it to the congregation. First she pretended she had forgotten her glasses, and tried to find someone else who could read it, but no one could. Finally she went home feeling very ashamed because now the cat was out of the bag. Right away she made up her mind to learn to read. She walked to the nearest class in another village to attend the literacy class, and kept attending until she could read and write well. Now she can help her church by being an active leader. Currently she also serves as village leader. – Bebe I.
